If you are traveling from Delhi towards Chandigarh, you will see the iconic Decathlon store and McDonalds store as you enter Zirakpur after crossing the Derabassi flyover.
This connectivity benefit explains why this small sleepy town has developed so fast and is the first choice for most people who are looking to buy a house in Zirakpur.
Zirakpur, along with Mohali, Panchkula and Derabassi lies on the outskirts of Chandigarh.
Most of these areas are characterized by easy connectivity, high disposable incomes and a relatively low cost of living.
Public Transport
Zirakpur is centrally located and has easy access to public transport.
The city lies at conjunction of roads from Chandigarh, Delhi, Patiala and Shimla. State transport buses ply on these roads and you can easily catch buses to any of these places from here.

My 3 favorite things about Zirakpur
Zirakpur is a nice little town that allows me good career opportunities, good work life balance and affordable housing.
But this is not all here are my 3 favorite things about living in Zirakpur:
- The town is very close to the hillstations such as kasauli and Shimla so I can visit these places along with my family in winters or summers. It takes a maximum of 2 hours to kasauli and 4 hours to Shimla
- Weather: Although the weather can be very hot during the summers Zirakpur does have the benefit of getting rains whenever it gets very hot.
- The location is quite central and it allows me to travel to any major destination with ease.
My 3 least favorite things about Zirakpur
- Traffic: if you are coming from a bigger city, traffic is a breeze. However the national highway can get a bit busy during the rush hours. The stretch around the Patiala chowk is especially troublesome during rush hours.
The government is planning a flyover to ease the congestion but it will take time. I am sure though that this trouble will not last.
By local standards a traffic jam would probably delay you by a maximum of 5 minutes at the most.
2. Infrastructure: Zirakpur has grown exponentially after 2004. From a population of 20,000 to more than a lakh now, the town has not been able to keep infrastructure up to date.
Inner roads, sewerage in some places is troublesome still.
3. Zirakpur town can sometimes seem like an island of chaos between Chandigarh and Mohali, which are planned.
Many illegal colonies and builders have made the town their homes and one has to be careful while selecting a property.
One has to be careful while choosing a place to stay. Expert knowledge on local Real Estate helps.

Conclusion
Zirakpur is a good place to live with family. Chandigarh, Zirakpur, Mohali and Panchkula offer a good lifestyle and work-life balance.
For those thinking of moving from Metros to the Tricity, I would highly recommend it. I did the same a few years ago and I am happy about my decision.
Patiala chock under flyover traffic congestion & VIP Road traffic congestion is really horrible.
Although authorities has taken number of steps like Road dividers at both places.
Outlets for traffic on VIP ROAD Zirakpur is must for smooth transportation.
True, I hope completion of airport/PR7 road will help divert traffic too.
