This is an informative post about Mohali or SAS Nagar as it is better known. In this blog, I am going to write about some of the most common questions I receive about the town from my customers who are quite often from outside the state and looking for information on the region.
About
Mohali is one of the 22 districts of Punjab. It is officially known as the Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (SAS Nagar). It was named after Sahibzada Ajit Singh the eldest son of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar was carved out of areas of the Ropar and Patiala districts of Punjab.
This district comprises townships such as Kharar, Mohali, Derabassi, Kurali, and Zirakpur.
The total population of the district is approximately 10 lakh. There are a total of 383 villages, 8 municipalities, and three blocks.
Mohali is home to various important government buildings of the Punjab government. It is also home to important central government offices and educational & research institutes. The town is an emerging IT hub destination and various multinational and national companies have offices in the district.
The official website for the district is https://sasnagar.nic.in/.
Weather in Mohali

Mohali has a subtropical climate where the summers are hot, the winters cold, because it is close to the mountains in Himachal, and the monsoons are mild to average.
The good thing about the weather in Chandigarh and the tricity is that whenever it gets too hot it usually rains.
The region receives most of its rainfall in July and August, the major monsoon months, and some winter rainfall in the months of December and January.
In summers the temperature can rise up to 47 degrees Celsius and in winters the temperature can go as low as 1 or 0 degrees celsius.
The TRICITY
Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Mohali are collectively known as the Tri-City.
Mohali and Panchkula are also planned townships like Chandigarh. Mohali is governed by Punjab while Panchkula is governed by Haryana.
All these towns are interconnected and many people travel from one city to the other for work and recreation.
Real Estate in Chandigarh Tri City
I get many queries on my blog from places such as Mumbai or Gujarat where people ask for luxury apartments in Chandigarh.
Chandigarh does not have high-rise luxury apartments. Mohali is your best bet if you are looking for luxury apartments in Chandigarh.
You will find individual houses in Chandigarh and Panchkula but not luxury apartments. The only apartments available in these towns are housing board societies that a luxury customer will not even consider. Panchkula does have a couple of good highrises near sector 20.
You can find both houses and luxury apartments in Mohali and Zirakpur.
In terms of prices, Chandigarh is the most expensive, Panchkula is next and Mohali and Zirakpur follow in respective order.
If you want to invest in commercial property then Mohali and Zirakpur are the best options for commercial investment right now.
Public Transport

Mohali is very well connected by land, air, and rail. Chandigarh Transport undertaking provides bus connectivity within the Tri-City and many private and state transport buses provide connectivity with other states.
Mohali railway station is very well connected with the rest of the country.
Chandigarh International Airport is situated near Aerocity in Mohali and one can easily reach the airport within 15 minutes from any part of town.
Industry
Mohali has a variety of companies in the manufacturing, telecommunication services, and IT outsourcing sector.
Real estate, Education, Sports, and IT firms are some other employment-generating industries in the district.
Derabassi has a variety of industries in the life sciences and chemical space. These industries also create good employment in the region.
Things to do in Mohali

Mohali is a vibrant township that offers a good quality of life. The cost of living is high as compared to other towns in Punjab but is not as high as Chandigarh or Delhi.
Due to its proximity to Chandigarh, Mohali is often considered a part of Chandigarh in local circles. The distance between the two towns is negligible. Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden, Rose garden, or other entertainment avenues in Chandigarh are only a short drive away from the town.
The township is home to International hockey and cricket stadium where regular sports activities such as International matches, Indian hockey league matches, and Indian Premier League matches happen regularly.
Both the stadiums are located not too far away from the main city and locals enjoy matches regularly.
Many hill stations in Himachal such as Kasauli, Shimla, Bilaspur, Kullu, and Manali are nearby and people take off regularly to these hill stations whenever there is a day or two of holidays.
Hospitals and healthcare
Mohali and the Tricity overall, have a number of specialty hospitals that are the best in the country in their own rights.
Some of the major hospitals in the region are PGI Chandigarh, Government medical college sector 32, Sector 16 hospital, Max Hospital, Fortis Hospital, Sector 6 Hospital-Panchkula, The Alchemist Hospital Panchkula, Silver Oak Hospital, and numerous other private hospitals.
In fact, many people from the neighboring states of Haryana, Himachal, and Jammu & Kashmir come to the Tri-City for their medical needs.
The healthcare facilities in the area are perhaps one of the best in the country and that is why people from all around the country come and settle in the region.
